"It has always seemed strange to me that in our endless discussions about education so little stress is laid on the pleasure of becoming an educated person, the enormous interest it adds to life. To be able to be caught up into the world of thought - that is to be educated." Edith Hamilton

Sadly it seems like educational pursuits are downplayed because the "general masses" not only can't relate to the effort involved (unlike a physical achievement) or ever envision themselves completing such accomplishments, but at the same time they also view it as "easy" in that sense of "all you did was read some books and memorize some stuff" Which so far from the truth it hurts like a brick. So there's a jealousy factor, as well as a condecention factor.
Plus, with things in acedemia being what they are right now, you can't even take joy in your own achievements due to having to work so hard to get them that you're exhausted by the time you get there (or hospitalized) and the knowledge of how generally cutthroat the environment is.
Learning things should be fun damn it! and not cost you your soul in the process.
